Bus Driver
 

Job Title:  School Bus Driver 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt      

Job Status: Full Time

 

Position Qualifications
Individuals must be able to work well under pressure. Must have the ability to organize and set appropriate priorities to meet deadlines. Able to work as part of a highly functioning team. Ability to interpret data collected and makes appropriate and meaningful recommendations as required.
 
Job Specifications and Requirements
Education/Certifications: High School Diploma or GED, Valid Texas CDL (Class B with Passenger and School Bus endorsement,) No record of DUI convictions in past ten years.  Must be able to pass DOT mandated physical exam; must pass pre-duty and randomly administered drug and alcohol tests.
 
Special Knowledge/Skills:  Must be 21 years old; ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English; acceptable driving record as determined by the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Position Summary
 Ensure the safe and orderly transportation of students on an assigned bus route; operate a school bus that transports students and other personnel to and from schools or other designated locations.
 
Major Job Duties and Responsibilities 
●    Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
●    Maintain safety precautions when students are boarding and departing the bus.
●    Maintain appropriate student management and report student incidents to the appropriate supervisors.
●    Follow the assigned routes and adhere to set schedules.
●    Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and submit work orders as necessary,
●    Communicate with department personnel, school personnel, and parents about student behavior while on the bus.
●    Keep the assigned bus clean and fueled.
●    Properly operate all assigned communications equipment.
●    Report all accidents, vehicle damage, and student injuries as they occur
●    Complete and submit all required reports and documentation.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and phone, and other equipment utilized by this position.  The person in this position frequently communicates with students, parents, and administrators. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Light to moderate lifting is required. Regular, predictable attendance is required. Noise level is consistently moderate but can be heavy during athletic activities, passing periods, lunchtimes, and before and after school as well.
