Welcome to Our Class

This is my 13th year of teaching and my 8th year teaching at Southwest Preparatory School. I received my Bachlelor's of Science Degree in Interdisplinary Studies from Texas A&M University in San Antonio. I am certified to teach Early Childhood through 4th grade, certified in English as a second language and am Gifted and Talented trained. I also have the distinction of being named as an exemplary teacher by the Texas Education Agency. As one of the two Career Lead Teachers on campus, I assist with the growth and development of the other educators on campus, as well as ensure curriculum implementation. I love spending time with my puppy, Jasper, reading, gardening, visiting museums (especially the Alamo), and walking.

My love for Texas history extends far beyond the classroom. Participating in the Texas Revolution Road Trip and a week-long educational journey through Mexico, both sponsored by the Alamo, gave me the opportunity to experience history where it happened. Walking through historic sites, exploring different perspectives, and connecting with fellow educators deepened my understanding of the people and events that shaped Texas. These experiences strengthened my passion for bringing history to life and inspires me to create more meaningful and engaging learning opportunities for my students. My involvement as a member of the Alamo Education Advisory Board has given me the opportunity to collaborate with other educators and historians who share a commitment to preserving and teaching Texas history. Through the Museo Institute, I also had the privilege of developing lessons and educational resources for other teachers to use when teaching about the Alamo. These experiences have reinforced my belief that students learn best when history is brought to life through authentic stories and meaningful experiences.

Why I Teach

Learning is very important to me. As a child, I loved school and my teachers had a huge impact on my life both positively and negatively. I want to make sure my students have the best learning experience possible. I am an avid reader and my main goal is to cultivate a love of reading in my students. I believe that reading has the power to broaden perspectives, deepen understanding, and help people make more informed decisions about the world around them.

My Educational Philosophy

My goal is to foster a love for learning in each one of my students, so that they will become lifelong learners. Each child possesses the capacity to learn, but not always at the same time, the same way, or at the same pace. As the educator in the classroom, it is my responsibility to find the best way for each child to learn and to create a classroom environment that allows each student to excel.

In the Classroom

You will find students actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences. Through hands-on activities, collaborative discussions, and interactive lessons, students build strong reading and social studies skills while staying focused and having fun. My instruction is differentiated to meet the needs of all learners, ensuring that every student is challenged, supported, and encouraged to grow. From exploring new stories to discovering people, places, and events from the past, the classroom is filled with curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning.
