Southwest Prep Early College Students Honored by Texas A&M University-San Antonio
Southwest Preparatory School is proud to celebrate the accomplishments of its Early College High School students who were recently recognized by Texas A&M University-San Antonio during the university's inaugural Dual Credit and Early College High School Recognition Ceremony.
The event honored nearly 80 students from Southwest Preparatory Early College High School and Harlandale STEM Early College High School who earned 42 or more college credit hours while completing their high school diploma requirements.
Among those recognized was Southwest Preparatory Early College High School Valedictorian Jessi Ice, who earned an impressive 59 college credit hours before graduating from high school—just one credit hour shy of the program's 60-hour goal.
Collectively, Southwest Preparatory Early College High School students earned an outstanding 311 college credit hours this year through the program.
Through Southwest Preparatory School's partnership with Texas A&M University-San Antonio, students have the opportunity to earn college credit at no cost to their families while completing their high school education. Students attend classes on the university campus, learn from college professors, and gain firsthand experience navigating a higher education environment.
"I am incredibly proud of our students for taking advantage of the Early College High School opportunity," said Cheryl Wills-Pacheco, Principal of Southwest Preparatory Early College High School. "Earning college credit while still in high school gives students a tremendous head start toward their future goals. These students are saving time, saving money, and proving that they are capable of achieving extraordinary things. Their success is a reflection of their hard work, determination, and commitment to excellence."
The recognition ceremony celebrated not only academic achievement, but also the partnerships among students, families, Southwest Preparatory School, and Texas A&M University-San Antonio that make these opportunities possible.
Texas A&M University-San Antonio President Salvador Hector Ochoa praised the students for their dedication to college-level coursework while still in high school and recognized the families, teachers, counselors, and university faculty who supported them along the way.
Southwest Preparatory School congratulates all of its Early College High School students for their remarkable accomplishments and looks forward to seeing their continued success in college, careers, and beyond.
