Southeast Campus Celebrates New Playground with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
On September 4, 2025, the Southeast Campus of Southwest Preparatory School officially opened its brand-new playground with a joyful ribbon-cutting ceremony. Students, teachers, staff, and district leaders gathered for the special occasion, joined by honored guest Mrs. Susan Golla, whose generous gift made the playground possible.
The playground was donated in loving memory of Michael Lee Golla (Nov. 21, 1963 – Nov. 3, 2022). A plaque now stands at the site, carrying the heartfelt message: “A life that brought joy, love, and laughter. May this playground carry their light.”
Words of Gratitude and Hope
Principal Lindsey Saldaña welcomed the crowd, sharing the deeper meaning of the new addition:
“This playground is more than equipment; it is a symbol of opportunity, imagination, and belief that every child deserves a safe and welcoming place to grow.”
Deputy Superintendent Mr. Chris McCammon also spoke on behalf of the district, thanking Mrs. Golla for her generosity:
“You’ve given our students more than swings and slides—you’ve given them a safe place to laugh, to play, to build friendships, and to make memories.”
Student Appreciation
Students played a big role in expressing gratitude. Second- and third-grade students presented handmade posters for Mrs. Golla, filled with colorful drawings and words of thanks.
Two students also spoke during the ceremony:
-
Lawson Garcia, a third grader, shared:
“I love our school’s park! It is helping me to get in shape and helping me to learn back flips. I am grateful for my park. I made lots of friends there. Our park is fun, I know I will make a lot of memories. Our school park may be small, but it has everything to make people happy.” -
Grayson Lockney a 2second grader, read a touching original poem titled “Shining Star” that honored Mrs. Golla’s kindness:
“You knew what I needed and wanted, it’s true.
And that’s why this poem is a thank you to you.
…Please know you’re honored for all that you are,
And that in my life, you’re one shining star.”
Celebration and Play
After the speeches, the ribbon was cut to cheers and applause, and students joyfully ran to enjoy their first official playtime on the new equipment. The moment reflected the heart of the campus: a place where generosity, community, and childhood joy come together.
