Threats Are No Joke! Southwest Prep Joins Statewide August Safety Campaign

Threats Are No Joke! Public Awareness Campaign

Creating a Safe, Supportive, and Respectful School Environment

At Southwest Preparatory School, one of our highest priorities is maintaining a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for all students, staff, and visitors. That’s why we are proud to partner with the Texas School Safety Center in the Threats Are No Joke! Public Awareness Campaign, running throughout August.

This statewide initiative is designed to educate students, families, and our community about the very real consequences of making threats—whether verbal, written, posted online, or shared through social media. Even statements made as a “joke” can cause fear, disrupt learning, and lead to severe disciplinary action and legal consequences.

Why This Matters

As Texas students return to school this fall, the Texas School Safety Center is equipping districts with proactive tools to help students understand the seriousness of their words and actions. The campaign focuses on grades 4–12 and promotes the message:

Threats Are No Joke! – Don’t do it. Don’t share it. Report it!

How We’re Sharing the Message

The campaign includes a powerful PSA video and a robust toolkit of resources for students, parents, and educators.

Our campuses will share this campaign through classroom lessons, social media posts, and family outreach, ensuring that every student understands both the personal and community impact of threats.

Watch the PSA and Start the Conversation at Home

We encourage all families to take a few minutes to watch the Threats Are No Joke! Public Service Announcement below. After watching, please use the Parent Guide to help your family discuss how words and actions—online or in person—can impact the entire school community.

Our Shared Responsibility

Safety is a shared responsibility. By working together—students, parents, staff, and community—we can create a culture where safety is protected, respect is expected, and learning can thrive without fear or disruption.

If you see or hear something that could threaten the safety of our schools:
📢 Don’t do it. Don’t share it. Report it!
