Dual Credit and Early College High School for 2020-21

Southwest Preparatory has exciting plans for the 2020–21 school year! Students from both the New Directions and Southeast campuses will be joining the Northwest campus students at Texas A&M University-San Antonio as their Dual Credit and Early College High School (ECHS) programs continue to grow. By 2022, the partnership plans to expand to serve 200 Southwest Prep students on the A&M-SA campus, giving them the opportunity of a lifetime—to earn college credits while still in high school.

In the two years of this partnership, Southwest Prep students have earned 681 college hours and 81 hours in CLEP tests. The program boasts a 92.5% retention rate. Over 80 students from the Southwest Prep school district will be taking college courses with A&M-SA for Spring 2020.

Southwest Preparatory is grateful to have dedicated classroom space on the college campus for its students. The ECHS students are able to remain on the college campus all day while having their high school subjects taught between their college courses.

“This is an exciting time to be a student at Southwest Prep. The possibilities for our students are endless as we continue to collaborate and develop our partnerships,” said Sherry Head, Superintendent. According to Lesley Carr, Director of the ECHS program, “In 2018-19, our ECHS program saved our students and community over $100,000 in tuition cost.
