Focus, Plan, Learn, and Succeed! Many students think they don’t like school, tests, teachers, textbooks and the likes. However, I believe that when students experience SUCCESS, they change the way they think. How do they experience success? Good study skills, lead to the success they so desperately need to experience. Also, mentors can be a positive influence on our students. Oftentimes, when given the opportunity, student peers can influence each other in a positive way. We, as educators and parents must never tire of efforts to nourish and cherish students, to capture their hearts, and to guide them into paths of success!

Biographical Information Born in small town East Texas, I developed a love for opportunity when I moved, with my family, to San Antonio. I graduated from Brackenridge High School and went on to pursue higher education at Prairie View A & M University. I transferred to Southwest Texas State University (Texas State, San Marcos) after my freshman year. I met Nate Thomas at SWTSU and we were married after we graduated in 1972. I have taught elementary and high school in Texas, Indiana, Kentucky and California. I began with Southwest Preparatory in 2006/2007 as counselor at New Directions and NE campus night school. As full-time counselor at New Directions, I enjoy the everyday challenges of working with a diverse student population. I also count it a privilege to have the opportunity to work with the awesome staff team that we have here at New Directions. |
