Human Resources: Employee Resources

Employee Benefits - Other Benefits

By Gary Shaw

Southwest Preparatory School is proud to offer our employees a variety of additional benefits.

Personal Leave:  All contract employees receive five (5) days of personal leave. This leave is to be used during the Track 1 school year. Non-exempt staff who work year round will receive an additional ten days (10) leave to be taken during the Track 2 calendar and after the end of the Track 2 calendar. All leave must be scheduled with the Principal/ Manager to ensure adequate coverage. Every request for leave will be considered but the needs of the Campus/Office will have priority.

New employees beginning employment on or after January 1st of the school year will receive 2.5 days of personal leave to be used during the period Jan - May of the school year. Non-exempt employees with year round schedules will receive an additional 5 days of leave to be taken during the summer months June - July.

Southwest Preparatory School has no provision for “carry over” of any unused leave balances.  SWPS Leave Form

Family Medical Leave - Please contact HR if you need this coverage to insure that the proper forms are filled out for this leave.  Covered employers must grant an eligible employee up to a total of 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12-month period for one or more of the following reasons:

1. for the birth and care of the newborn child of the employee;
2. for placement with the employee of a son or daughter for adoption or foster care;
3. to care for an immediate family member (spouse, child, or parent) with a serious health condition; or
4. to take medical leave when the employee is unable to work because of a serious health condition.
5. to care for a member of the Armed Forces, including a member of the National Guard or Reserves, who is undergoing medical treatment, recuperation, or therapy, is otherwise in outpatient status, or is otherwise on the temporary disability retired list, for a serious injury or illness.

Direct Deposit:  When your employer sends your pay directly to your checking or savings account rather than issuing you a paper check, you're participating in Direct Deposit. These deposits arrive and are made available to you more quickly than paper checks, and can be automatically divided among different accounts based on your direction. You don't even have to go to your bank.  Direct Deposit Form   (Please download this form)

Dependent Care Flex Account: This account allows you to use your pre-tax dollars to pay for certain expenses to care for dependents that live with you while you are at work. While this most commonly means child care, it can also be used for adult day care for senior citizen dependents that live with you, such as parents. It cannot be used for summer camps (other than "day camps") or for long term care for parents that live elsewhere (such as in a nursing home). The dependent care Flex Account is federally capped at $5,000 per year.  My Flexible Spending Account

Pre-Paid Legal:  Pre-Paid Legal gives members access to professional legal counsel not only for traditional legal problems, but for everyday events such as buying a house or a car, creating a will, handling a problem with an insurance company and dealing with identity theft...
...and much more where legal review should be routine, but rarely is. These events can be among the most important events in a person's life, yet there is a tendency for them to take place without proper legal review. For Pre-Paid Legal members, access to legal counsel is only a toll-free phone call away.
