Employee Benefits - Medical/Life Insurance

By Gary Shaw

Southwest Preparatory School offers TRS Active Care Insurance, PPO Plans 1,2 & 3.  The employee has thirty days from the date of hire to make selections for any health care related benefits. If the employee declines coverage they will not be eligible to enroll again until the next open enrollment period. An employee who declines TRS insurance coverage during their initial eligibility period may be subject to a preexisting condition waiting period if they decide to enroll during a later enrollment period.  TRS Active Care Application Form (Download form to fill out please)

Southwest Preparatory School is proud to offer our employees a variety of supplemental insurance and other benefits. We strive to offer quality benefits at an affordable cost.

Life Insurance:  This insurance is provided by Texas Life Insurance. Employees who elect to enroll within 30 days of date of hire are guaranteed coverage.  Any employees electing to enroll after the initial 30 days of employment coverage is subject to a physical examination.

Section 125 Cafeteria Plan: Cafeteria Plans are employer sponsored employee benefit plans that allow employees to elect benefits on a pre-tax basis thereby ensuring that employees and employers save taxes.  Congress legally provided for Cafeteria Plans in 1978 under IRS Code Section 125.  They are also referred to as Flexible Benefit Plans or Section 125 Plans.

Health Care Spending Account: A Health Care FSA (HCFSA) allows you to use your pre-tax dollars to help you pay for eligible health care expenses that are not covered or reimbursed by FEHB, FEDVIP or any other insurance. A HCFSA is not insurance, but it can help you get more for your money by using pre-tax dollars to stretch the money you would normally spend out-of-pocket on health care services.  Please CLICK HERE  for a Guide to Deductible Expenses.  My TASCO Flexible Spending Account

Aetna Long Term Care Plan: Long term care (LTC) is what an individual needs when he or she needs regular assistance with day-to-day functions like bathing, eating and/or dressing, or supervision due to a cognitive impairment. LTC insurance helps pay for care at home, in an adult day care center, assisted living facility, nursing home or hospice - you decide where to receive care.

Workers Compensation:  Workers compensation insurance exists in every state to protect employers and employees from the ramifications of injury and illness on the job. Workers compensation, or “workman’s comp” as it’s also known, is insurance provided by your employer, which ensures – by law – that you get paid a portion of your wages that you would otherwise lose to injury or illness contracted on the job. Also, workers compensation laws ensure that your medical bills will be paid. Your employer is required by law to have the forms needed for you to file a claim.
